Hobby Collectors of Football Cards
Hobby collectors are your typical collectors and they make up approximately 80% of the footy card collectors market. Hobby Collectors will usually purchase complete sets, team sets and occasionally rookie cards and autographs, although these last two are usually associated with Serious Collectors.
Complete Sets
This means collecting each card produced in a particular year. Cards can be collected through the purchase of sealed boxes, where you open the packs yourself and try to complete a set on your own or by buying a complete AFL set or NRL set from a footy card store like Footy Stars.
Compiling a set yourself is what it’s all about. When you buy packs of cards or boxes of cards, the thrill of opening the packs, finding your favourite player, or finding a valuable insert, really gets your blood pumping. Team Sets
Not as popular as collecting complete sets, the team collecting category is one of the oldest and purest forms of the hobby. Team set collectors collect football memorabilia because they support a specific team and they typically acquire other AFL and NRL memorabilia, such as photos, autographs, posters, and jerseys to build on their collection. |
