Serious Collectors of Football Cards
Serious Collectors are exactly that... Collectors that are serious about their footy cards. They spend large amounts of money (but not quite as much as High End Investors) collecting "Rookie Cards", "Unopened Material" and "Error Card Corrections". To help you learn more about these types of cards we've prepared this short article.
Rookie Cards
The biggest craze in football card collecting is rookie cards, or as they’re known in Australia, "Draft Picks" in the AFL and "Future Force" in the NRL. More than any other segment of the hobby, the rookie card phenomenon is investor and speculator driven.
Unopened Material
Collectors enjoy the thrill of opening up boxes to see what they bought and can’t possibly stand not knowing what’s inside each box.
This category includes unopened packs, boxes and cases. Stores like Footy Stars often keep a large supply of unopened packs and boxes of recent cards in stock; simply because a good amount of customers buy unopened packs and boxes. If you’re interested in buying sealed packs or boxes click here.
Error Card Corrections
One of the most controversial developments in footy card collecting involves errors and variations. A variation can be as major as running the wrong photo of a player or misspelling his name, or as minor as a slight cropping difference in the photo.
A variation occurs any time the card manufacturer finds an error on a card and corrects it by releasing the same card with different information or a different photo. |
