Scarcity and Demand
In most cases, Select Australia, the manufacturers of the exclusively licensed AFL and NRL football cards freely provide information on the number of cards they print which makes it easy to determine scarcity.
In 2005, Select produced 6,500 boxes of AFL Dynasty Cards and 3,500 boxes of NRL Power Cards. Both an AFL and NRL box contains 36 packets each. An AFL packet offers 10 cards per packet (including one footy face die cut card) while the NRL packets contain nine cards per packet.
Number of boxes produced
A major factor in the value of the cards you’re collecting is the number of cards produced in the series release.
A release that consists of 3,000 boxes will naturally demand higher value than a release of 10,000 boxes. The rarity of the 3,000 release is the driver of this value with far fewer cards available to collectors.
With a limited number of boxes available and therefore a limited number of insert sets it becomes more difficult to complete your collection and find the redemption cards.
This takes us to the next article on valuable footy cards which is about Limited Release cards. |
