Signature Cards

Collectors love to have cards of their favourite players. There’s something special about having an autograph. It is an even bigger thrill if you get your favourite player’s autograph on a card!

Before we go into this much further I would like to make you aware of the huge difference between the two types of signature cards. There are cards that are signed by players at any time and in any location; like at a game or training session, and there are the signature cards produced by Select that are available in strictly limited quantities only.

The first kind of signature is the most common and is usually found on the common cards in the set. As a footy card collector, when you go to the games in your area, bring along cards of your favourite players and those of the opposing team and personally ask the players to sign them. Sometimes they will sign and sometimes they won’t.

If they do sign your footy card the signature becomes much more meaningful for you because you got the autograph yourself. Make sure you have an autograph pen with you (Sharpies are the best in my opinion) and hang around the area where the teams come out. Always be polite to the players, because there are hundreds of people who would love to have their autograph.

The second kind of signature footy card is the specially designed variety. These are limited cards with say only 110 signed cards available (the available quantity changes with each release and type of card).

These cards are designed by Select with a special area for the autograph, and if you look closely you will see the following text in small print. "This is an authentic Select Signature Card signed by Player’s Name".

The Player’s sign their batch of cards under the watchful eye of Mr Grant Copley, owner of Select Australia. It is Grant’s printed signature on the reverse side of each Select Signature card that certifies its authenticity.

The actual text of the Certification is: "Select Australia P/L certifies that this card is a genuine Select Signature Card that has been hand signed by the player and verified by Mr Grant Copley of Select Australia P/L. Only ### cards have been produced." Of course the ### is replaced with the actual number of cards produced, and the lower the number the higher the value.

These official signature cards are far more valuable than the more common kind because they are limited in their availability and therefore more scarce than the other kind which is virtually unlimited in availability.

One thing is for sure... autographed football cards are often the ones most in demand because they are so desirable to so many fans.

If you get the opportunity to own a Select Signature Card, we highly recommend you consider protecting your investment with some of the worlds best display accessories from Ultra Pro.
