Designing Footy Cards
Every weekend, at every AFL and NRL game, close to the action, right on the sideline, there are dozens of professional photographers shooting pictures of the game. It’s these professional quality action photos that become the focal point of all football cards and make them appealing to kids and adults alike.
Select’s Graphic Designers prepare template artwork for each series. This template artwork ensures each card looks similar, and is usually made up of the background images, borders, logo placements, the areas for the player’s names and the team names.
The designers will then add the action photograph of each player and on the reverse side include some vital statistics about each player. The back of the cards will usually contain a short description of the player’s history and achievements which is written and prepared by well respected sports journalists from both the AFL and NRL.
Before the cards are sent to print, draft designs are sent to each club for final approval and checking. It is the responsibility of each club to ensure the information about each player is correct.
Once the cards have been designed, the next step is to print and package them. |
